Emergency Grants (USD 6.76 M)
The French Development Agency (AFD) has allocated 6 million Euros in funding towards the Job Creation Project in the West Bank and Gaza over a period of two years (2007-2009).
The Job Creation Project in the West Bank and Gaza aims to alleviate the financial burdens of the most poor and marginalized Palestinian families by financing temporary employment opportunities through the execution of infrastructure micro-projects and improving public assets operated by NGOs. Through this project, NDC expects to offer assistance to over 50 NGOs in WBGS, and create approximately 140,000 working man-days. The project is expected to be completed by end of December 2009.
During April 2008, GIAs were signed with the 30 beneficiary NGOs (28 from the West Bank and 2 from Gaza) for a total amount of EURO 3,043,967.
Due to the deteriorating political and economic situation in Gaza and the severe shortage in construction material, NDC recommended changing its intervention to fund agricultural projects. This recommendation received approval by NDC"s Board and the AFD. Upon this decision, NDC has signed GIAs with 12 agricultural NGOs on October 20, 2008 for a total amount of EURO 2,080,000. Two additional GIAs are under processing and the remaining 2 NGOs have not yet completed the requirements for signing the GIAs.
